The ability was first displayed when Shadow and Sonic first met face to face, and later when Shadow saved Rouge the Bat from the vault where the Chaos Emeralds were stored on Prison Island. Later, both the Biolizard and Sonic the Hedgehog himself displayed the ability to use Chaos Control (Sonic most notably using a fake emerald), though Sonic has since seemed reluctant to use it too often, as the only times he's ever used it were in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog. Shadow used the ability several times, and was even able to take other objects or beings with him, with varying amounts of effort. Shadow first using Chaos Control in Sonic Adventure 2Ĭhaos Control was introduced along with Shadow the Hedgehog in the game Sonic Adventure 2, when Shadow uses a single Chaos Emerald to warp space and time and thereby teleport himself across varying distances. While in the comic's continuity, Shadow is an exception and does not need an Emerald at all, which according to Knuckles, is because he has the ability to tap into the "Chaos Force" to use the power of the Emeralds without a Chaos Emerald, which is something only Angel Island's Guardians could do before him. In Sonic X, Chaos Control is never initiated by Shadow or anyone else without an Emerald, or at least a fake Emerald, nearby (it was originally believed that all 7 were needed for Chaos Control but Shadow proved only one was needed). The Sonic X television show and the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series take more consistent approaches. Although cutscenes and bios in manuals and websites often claim activating Chaos Control requires a Chaos Emerald, Shadow the Hedgehog has used it a few times during gameplay and a cutscene without a visible Emerald. Its use in the games has been inconsistent. Furthermore, because the power of the Emeralds can be harnessed without a physical connection to an Emerald, users only need to be in close proximity to one to use Chaos Control. ![]() In the Shadow the Hedgehog game, Chaos Control is described as being enhanced with each Chaos Emerald added to its usage, until reaching full power with all 7 Emeralds. Black Doom demonstrated that he could use Chaos Control by warping the Black Comet, the Black Arms' homeworld, down to the surface of Earth. Although Shadow the Hedgehog is the first to be seen using Chaos Control in Sonic Adventure 2, the earliest known user of the ability is Black Doom, the Black Arms leader, as he could very well be over 2000 years old (as he states before the "Sky Troops" stage in Shadow the Hedgehog that he visited Earth around that time years ago).

![]() The always impressive Stan Sakai presents another outstanding volume in his epic Usagi Yojimbo comic series with the fantastic and fun 37th volume, Crossroads. He began his career by lettering comic books (notably Groo the Wanderer by Sergio Aragonés and Mark Evanier) and became famous with the production of Usagi Yojimbo, the epic saga of Miyamoto Usagi, a samurai rabbit living in late-sixteenth and early-seventeenth-century Japan. Why it’s great: If you want a dependable alarm clock with a timeless analog design that’s dead silent and easy to use, the Lemnos Riki checks all of those boxes. The developers recently added Bluetooth speaker functionality and are promising Spotify connectivity and additional sounds as features that are “coming soon.” We’ll update this guide when-and if-these features appear. For instance, we discovered one night that there were a few more soothing classical compositions to wake up to than we’d had the day before and that alarm-scheduling options had been expanded. But on a regular basis this clock can get additional features delivered via Wi-Fi updates. The Loftie isn’t “smart” like other smart alarm clocks, in that you won’t be served the news or the weather with the aid of a voice assistant. The two other buttons are for setting the alarm, accessing brightness and volume settings, setting the duration of the sleep timer, and choosing alarm tones. ![]() You won’t be able to read using the light, but it’s bright enough for when you’re fumbling for your glasses or going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. There’s an adjustable night-light hidden at the base that’s easily turned on and off, using the large button on top of the clock (it also works as the snooze button). We also liked the clock’s all-black exterior (it comes in a white and black option, too), which is free of distracting lights or branding. But it’s clear, and it automatically sets the time once connected to a Wi-Fi network. Of clocks we’ve tested, this one’s display isn’t the largest or the brightest. And though the clock’s single-speaker output can be a bit tinny for playing music, it can get surprisingly loud and is just fine for alarm tones and answering Google Assistant prompts. Fortunately, the clock’s two microphones (one in the front, the other in the back) are very sensitive and able to discern commands, even when we used a hushed volume at night. ![]() To set the alarm, adjust the volume, or turn on the night-light, it was always much easier to summon help with a “hey, Google …” instead. There’s also a tap at the top to enable the snooze feature, but it sometimes required another touch to register. Unless you’re looking at them from above, the buttons are discernible only by touch, and I often fumbled at night or in the early morning while trying to turn on music or adjust the volume. ![]() Even though the clock is outfitted with four evenly distributed buttons-for volume, turning on music, and the alarm settings-they are obscured from view due to the angled wedge design. Most everything this alarm clock can do is hidden, accessed using its built-in Google Assistant voice controls or with the Google Home app. ![]() Parents can customize the choices kids have by eliminating the games that might be too challenging or hard for their child. The trio also covers literature in the news, such as Vulture's attempt to make a top 100 books of the 21st century. It's a must-listen for anyone who really loved the literary analysis portion of their English courses from high school and onward. They dive deep and pick apart motivations, cultural ideas, and major motifs. Together, the three explore different themes in books of all genres, in all formats, and from all manner of time periods, including Edgar Rice Burroughs's classic Tarzan and Nick Drnaso's graphic novel Sabrina. Literary Disco has two hosts alongside Strong: essayist Julia Pistell and novelist Tod Goldberg. He's taken his impressive education out into the real world to create and develop the project that every man in his 30s seems to have a hand in these days: a podcast. Strong's devotion to the written word is not exclusive to only what he writes. It can be jarring for the casual fan, but it's also a fascinating look at how convincing an actor Strong is. Where Shawn is moody, sad, and impulsive, Strong himself comes across as thoughtful and introspective. So many people equate Strong with his character of Shawn, but Strong's writing proves that the two are very different indeed. His piece for Bullet is particularly evocative, as it contains his personal musings on what became of Shawn Hunter after the curtain closed on Boy Meets World and what kind of life Shawn is suited for now that the relative safety of the sitcom world has passed by. He has written for The Believer and Bullet Magazine, among others. His original writing, both poetry and prose, has appeared in various literary journals. in Fiction & Literature from Bennington College. The actor graduated magna cum laude from Columbia University and then received his M.F.A. But Strong wields his pen outside of the film sphere, as well. In addition to directing shorts with his brother Shiloh, he also wrote the screenplays for those films, as well as the TV movie he directed, Micah the A****** Ghost. Rider Strong's involvement in televised media is not restricted to acting and directing. He went from playing a kid who teased a young Topanga (Danielle Fishel) for her 90s brand of hippie-feminist tendencies to throwing his support behind many causes that Topanga would actually find quite worthwhile. Strong has kept up the political awareness ever since, frequently posting about social justice issues from his Twitter account. The short ad is comical in tone, and one has to imagine it sparked political interest in old Boy Meets World fans, many of whom were going to be voting for the very first time in the 2008 election. They're talking about hope, which was one of Obama's slogans. ![]() ![]() The ad starts out like it's PSA for STD awareness, with different characters saying they've "got" something, and that they never thought "it" could happen to them. But as it turns out, they're not talking about a disease. In 2008, Rider, Shiloh, and Rider's then-girlfriend/now-wife, Alexandra Barreto, created a political ad in support of presidential candidate Barack Obama. Rider Strong's directorial escapades have occasionally ventured into political territory. It seems this kind of character might be Strong's specialty. The character is a cutie, and plenty of young viewers are definitely rooting for this guy as he becomes an important member of Star's group. In many ways, this seems like an excellent fit for Strong, who played Shawn Hunter as an angry misfit who was trying desperately to have a normal life with friends who helped him work through his issues. Over the course of the series, Tom has to learn to control his jealousy and bad temper. the Forces of Evil, where he plays the character of Tom Lucitor. Tom is the crown prince of the Underworld and the ex-boyfriend of the series' protagonist, Princess Star Butterfly ( Eden Sher). However, he has a much more pivotal part in Star vs. He showed up for three episodes of Mighty Magiswords, playing a feline magician by the name of Familiar. He's been spending a good deal of time the last few years working as a voice actor on a couple of cartoon series. In some ways, Strong hasn't left the world of children's television. ![]() We loved using it through the day too, setting endless different colours and even a softly flickering candlelight effect. In fact, after two days of trying it, we were confident enough to ditch our back-up phone alarm and rely on the light only. You simply choose between a light fading to bright or (our favourite) a full coloured sunrise effect, which blends the colours of the sun together along the whole length of the lamp using gradient technology.Īs it’s larger than a traditional clock, the light is much brighter, which we found helped to wake us far more effectively. It can be set via Bluetooth through the app – which we set up and connected in seconds – and can also be controlled through Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit or Google Assistant. But the wake-up light setting is top-notch. Obviously, the design means there are no extra functions, so it’s not one for you if you want a radio, clock face or speaker. A smaller table lamp version is also available, which would take up hardly any space either. When switched off, it looks like a thin pole, which might not work well with more-traditional décor, but we loved the fact we didn’t need to find room on our bedside table. There’s no clock on this floor lamp but it was still one of the best lights for waking us up when placed close to our bed. Our only complaint is that it was fairly large on our bedside table but, otherwise, this is proof there’s no need to blow the budget to find a decent sunrise clock. A dimmer function means it’s easy to get the right light for the moment and it would work well as a nightlight for children. We especially liked the fact it has seven colour settings, so the clock could be used as a mood light for the rest of the day. Half an hour was way too long for us, as we tended to wake fairly soon after the light started but we loved the fact there was an additional audible alarm for days we were worried about sleeping through the light. There are eight alarm sounds to choose from and, when the light’s set, you just need to choose whether you want the ‘sun’ to rise over 10, 20 or 30 minutes. It has an FM radio, a digital clock, a snooze setting and three alarm functions – it can wake you up with the light only, the light and an audible alarm or just the alarm. Continue reading.įor the price, this light-up clock from Groov-e is packed with features. We loved the fact we could play the sound of waves during the sunset too and really felt like we slept a lot deeper and more easily afterwards. A great bedside buy overall. Using this never felt like too much of a harsh wake-up call, although we never failed to wake using just the light anyway, despite the fact it was slightly (pleasantly) softer than some we tested. We also liked the wake-up melodies, especially the bird song. ![]() This clock is a particularly good choice if there are two people needing to wake up at different times, as it has two distinct and very useful alarm settings. It has LED mood lighting and can be charged and used wirelessly – though beware that runtime is only around three hours on a full charge, so it won’t get you through the night. ![]() There’s an FM radio and it also functions as a Bluetooth speaker, which we thought was a nifty touch. It has pretty much everything else you could possibly need next to your bed too. It looks more like a speaker than a clock, with the time on a small screen at the bottom rather than a bigger one in the centre. This Beurer lamp is one of the neatest wake-up alarm clocks we tested. Some of the clocks we tested can even be used during the day to provide an ongoing boost when it’s gloomy outside. Light-up clocks may particularly benefit those who suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and find mornings especially difficult without natural daylight. The light triggers us to produce serotonin too, which will (hopefully) help us wake up with more energy and in a better mood. This positively affects our circadian rhythms, which control sleeping patterns and are affected by light, so our body wakes up naturally. They work by emitting a natural-looking light (or dawn simulator) that gets brighter over a set period of time. The research revealed it’s far less stressful for the body to wake naturally, which a light-up alarm will enable you to do every morning. One recent study found that being woken suddenly by an alarm and then hitting snooze may be making us chronically tired as this process disrupts our natural sleep cycle. It could even make a difference to how well you feel for the rest of the day. When the mornings are dark and cold, it’s even worse to be woken with a jolt, making it very tempting to snuggle back down under the duvet or hit that snooze button just one more time.Īlarm clocks that mimic sunrise could be the secret to stirring gently, so your body can acclimatise gradually to waking up. No one likes that awful moment the alarm goes off each morning. In addition to passwords, they also allow you to store your important credit card info, sensitive documents, bank account info, addresses, notes, and more. And as for Valkas main dragon, his name is Cloudjumper. The basic figures are about the same, with new ones for the new dragons. Unfortunately he is sold out on their website and in most stores, but you can sign up here to be notified when they get a new shipment. Why they made this choice I will never know, they have other plush toys with permanently attached wings so it is disappointing but the toy still looks way better than other yet produced. The wings are not permanently attached, Toothless wears them like a backpack and you can take them off to dress him up. The best by far for this movie is the Build a Bear Toothless: There is now a plush pillow available, which has the best wings out there but the oddest face: This Toothless is from the show line, better but not great: Super low quality and mass produced, but at least they look more like the actual characters for this movie. The official plush available everywhere are still really bad. Come on, stuffed dragons basically sell themselves unless they look ridiculous. The first movie’s toy line failed here, the plush toys didn’t look anything like the actual movie characters. Some of that was fixed as show merchandise came out, but it wasn’t until this movie that things really improved. We lamented the failings from the toys for the first movie four years ago. Any time we can hold hands and show up like a global brand, it’s a good day,” Fitzpatrick said. There is a lot more cute and interesting merchandise available for this movie. ![]() and the Chinese market can both get behind and find success in, that’s a huge win. “Finding something for a brand like ours that both the U.S. opted to run with the creative on their various social media platforms (New Balance Canada and New Balance Mexico, for example). Plus, Fitzpatrick said at least 12 markets outside of the U.S. “For a very hyper-casual game mechanic like this, where a user could actually play two to three times within that timeframe - because it’s hard and you lose pretty quickly - those results are really good,” said Grossberg. Roughly one-third of those played all the way through. Additionally, TreSensa reported an average of 22 seconds spent with the game. Of all global consumers served the ad, 20% engaged. ![]() Instead it was building broad-based global awareness to the platform among game changers,” he said. While New Balance said it’s still too early to tell how the Cloud Jumper game has impacted sales, “early signs have been very strong,” Fitzpatrick said. The game did, however, generate a 5% click-through rate to New Balance’s mobile commerce site, although the brand did not specify what typical posts generate. “Given that this is a game, click-through wasn’t really the overarching goal. When users lost the game, they were presented with two choices: to play again or visit New Balance’s mobile commerce site. On the New Balance website, the brand describes the Fresh Foam sneakers’ “unbelievably soft and light foam” and states that it gives runners “a cloud-like feel to your run and workout.” TreSensa co-founder and CEO Rob Grossberg said the team was very conscious about the illustrations it used for this game, picking a character and items (like clouds) that would also educate consumers about key product attributes. In the game, players tried to move an animated, bouncing bunny character vertically up their screens, using purple clouds, pillows and New Balance-branded trampolines to propel it. “Even outside of this game-changer consumer, when we look at someone who is more style-focused, animations and illustration styles drive a really high engagement for us.” Plus, because most younger consumers tend to be mobile- and digital-first, Fitzpatrick said it made sense to create something animated that would live on mobile. “When you begin to look at enough content over a long period of time, we are able to see the traits that pop most consistently on our most engaged content,” said Ian Fitzpatrick, head of digital marketing at New Balance. Using a third-party tool called Hookit, which measures the value of all the content the brand creates, New Balance found that positing illustrations and animations to social media always drew high levels of engagement (mainly likes and comments) for the brand, especially among its target demographic for the Fresh Foam line.
